This project was about using one shape to create a sculpture that used negative space creatively. I chose a feather because I wanted to make a kind of fantastical story with my sculpture. Not just in the shape that the sculpture took but also with what the sculpture was made out of. The question was what shape represents fantasy and dream? My first though was a swirl, something that just was kinda hypnotizing. Swirls however are not a very interesting shape with what you can do with them, you can make things out of them, but what could you make out a swirls that the swirls represented? The next thought was flight. Whats more entreating to dream about than what you cannot do in real life, and who hasn't had a dream about, or fantasized about flying? The perfect shape for that were feathers, and feathers could tell a perfect story of birds and their own little world of the sky and trees that is souly theirs.
This one is a rough representation of an egg in a nest, the start of life, as well as the start of a birds head coming from nothing going straight up as sort of motivation to strive high.
This one continues the story where the mother bird is showing her baby how to fly and become strong.
And this one finishes of the story where the mother bird is behind her baby, as it has grown and in now showing the mother that he or she is now stong by weaving in and out of tight "tree branches".
